community guidelines
We have created these guidelines to facilitate a cohesive, productive, and respectful space for students of color. Navigating Honors spaces is challenging in and of itself, so we want to ensure that this space is welcoming and safe for all participants.
-
Respect everyone’s identities.
Including gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, race, and more. -
Don’t intellectualize or negate people’s lived experiences.
When people share their experiences, refrain from debating, questioning, or denying their story. Respond with empathy and support. -
Commit yourself to the horizontal hierarchy model.
Do not try to amass power or install a hierarchy within this organization. Accept that everyone is on an even playing field and commit yourself to sharing resources, knowledge, and power. -
Respect everyone’s privacy.
What’s said within this space is expected to stay within this space unless explicitly stated otherwise. -
Commit yourself to cultivating a supportive community and collective power.
Be willing to connect with people in this collective, share your knowledge, and make students of color in the UHP feel welcomed and supported.
